Olivewood Gardens and
Learning Center
National City, CA
Completed in 2010
The Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center is a garden-based learning facility and a demonstration garden for the surrounding community at the International Community Foundation. Visitors learn about organic gardening, nutrition, and cook with crops from the garden. Marcie Harris Landscape Architecture maximized the client’s limited space while creating a site design that is playful, orderly and flexible. Sustainability was also an integral part of the project. Sustainable components include: graywater demonstration garden, permeable parking lot, water efficient irrigation system, use of native plants and installation of planting with organic non-chemical fertilizers.
